The Tennessee Independent Colleges & Universities Association (TICUA) was founded in 1956 as a president's association to promote better cooperation among private institutions of higher learning in Tennessee. It is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of member college presidents and corporate leaders. Daily activities are coordinated by a six member staff.
TICUA seeks to promote cooperative programs among member institutions, supply public policy analysis, and provide a common front for raising funds from corporations and businesses. The Association counts among its membership each independent, non-profit, regionally accredited college and university in Tennessee with a traditional arts and science curriculum. In addition, there are several non-profit, regionally accredited members that specialize in such fields as medicine, dentistry, optometry, fine arts, and mortuary science.
